Fribourg & Treyer were one of the most renowned independent snuff houses in the United Kingdom, widely celebrated for their exceptional craftsmanship. Since 1720, Fribourg and Treyer meticulously perfected their unique snuff blends behind the historic bow-windowed shop located in Haymarket, where their original creations consistently captivated not only the local London crowds but also a diverse range of international visitors. The illustrious client list included notable figures such as the famous Shakespearean actor David Garrick, King George IV, and Beau Brummell.

Unfortunately, despite its rich history, the business tragically closed its doors in 1981; however, the Grade II* listed building at 34 Haymarket remains as a testament to their legacy. Today, Wilsons of Sharrow in Sheffield has taken up the mantle, producing snuff and tobacco products under the esteemed Fribourg & Treyer brand.

The 50g tin of Fribourg & Treyer Vanners Mixture is a carefully crafted broad cut mixture that is expertly blended from premium grade bright and red Virginia tobaccos, combined with a touch of Black Cavendish leaf, all without the addition of any artificial flavours. The Virginias contribute sublime notes of citrus, fragrant hay, and a hint of sweet spice, which are beautifully complemented by the naturally sweet character of the Black Cavendish. This results in a subtly sweet and mildly spicy blend that is gentle in terms of taste, strength, and nicotine content. It offers a cool and satisfying smoke experience that remains comfortable and pleasant, ensuring it won’t bite even when pushed to the limits.

The name ‘Vanners’ refers to the drivers of horse drawn delivery carts of 18th and 19th century London.
